Indispensible Scarf

I am not the most talented crocheter - I can only do a basic stitch - but I still love this scarf even if it isn't fancy. The colors of this yarn are just so perfect, I can wear it nearly everything I own. It comes in handy at work when I'm not wearing a turtleneck. After my mom saw it, I also had to make one for her.

This is the ugly one. I don't like the blue fabric at all; some how it looks much better in the star quilt. It is unlikely this one will end up in the finished quilt - should I ever actually make one...

Quilt Block #15

This is my first attempt at a log cabin block. It uses scraps leftover from my OM quilt. I wasn't paying attention and assembled it wrong, but the effect is still the same. These blue fabrics don't contrast as well as I hoped.

Spring Ornament

My mom suddenly decided she needed a spring-themed ornament for one of our neighbors, so I whipped one up on Sunday. Thanks to my plethora of craft supplies, I didn't even have to go to the store!

Quilt Block #14

This block made use of the leftover cat paw fabric from the Christmas ornaments I made for my mom and sister. I love the design of the block and I think it would look great as a whole quilt.

More Strips

Today I decided to finish up the strip piecing blocks I had started a couple weeks ago. I was pleased that I was able to get eight more blocks out of the remaining strips. These, however, did not come out as square as the first set, so they all had to get chopped down a quarter inch. Since I don't have a plan in mind, it won't ruin the dimensions of the final project.

Quilt Block #13

I love this block, mostly because it just amazes me that it actually came out sooo well! The blue star and pink swirl fabrics were both scraps, and I was surprised I ended up with enough to create such a nice looking block, since I started sewing without a plan for the finished product.

Clemson Fleece

My mom got me this fleece while I was living in the nice Warm South, so I never wore it much. Or at all actually; it still had the tag on it. Now that I live in the Cold North, I decided to give it a make-over. Part of the reason I never wore it was not so much the temperature, but the fact that I dislike clothing that has to be removed over one's head. Especially with fleece, it causes so much more static. I solved that problem by cutting it down the middle and finishing the edges with bias tape. It was supposed to have a zipper, and may still, if I ever find a separating orange zipper that is an appropriate length. I accented it with a little Clemson tiger paw patch that I had left over from sprucing up Zack's sweatpants and my South Carolina themed ornaments.


ETA: I finally added a zipper! It's not orange, but now I'll wear it!

Quilt Block #12

I admit, this is not the most exciting design, but for some reason I was inspired to create a rainbow block.

Shamrock Ornament

I made this St. Patrick's Day ornament for my grandma. It's hard to see, but the rainbow-colored fabric has shamrocks on it.

Quilt Block #11

I couldn't decide whether I wanted to use pink or yellow to coordinate with this flowered print, so I went with both, a decision I now regret. However, I still can't decide whether I would prefer it with all yellow or all pink.

Quilt Block #10

I really love the colors in this fabric. Not all the stripes line up exactly, but my goal was just get all the stripes to go in the same direction, so I consider it a success.

Quilt Block #9

I was so undecided about designs for this block that I had to put them to a vote. I emailed pictures of each design to four people and this was the unanimous winner. Thanks goodness for digital cameras! I don't know how I would live without one! Since I live so far away from friends and family, it saves lots of money on film developing.

Strip Piecing

Yesterday's project was strip piecing. Thanks to the quilt I made for Amanda, I had strips of several blue fabrics no more than 2.5 inches wide. I pieced them on parchment paper. My original intent was to make a block for my Quilt Block Project, but since I still have a few strips left, I am going to see how many blocks I can make and come up with a new project.

Quilt Block #8

This is a really simple design, but I love the way the vibrant red fabrics make it pop.

Fabulous Fleece Hat

When I found this fleece, I just had to buy it - I couldn't believe how perfect it was! With my recent move to the Cold North, I was in need of some new winter apparel and this color combination was a perfect match for all my coats: the black pea coat for not-so-cold weather, the long pink coat for when it's a bit colder, and the full-length poofy brown one for when it's ridiculously cold. Plus, it was on sale for $4/yd., and with half a yard I made the hat and a scarf! It's such a simple design though, that even if I'd had to make one for each coat, it wouldn't have taken very long at all!

Quilt Block #7

This block was an experiment with triangles. I'm not entirely sure what I had in mind, if anything. I used my favorite fabric, and the yellow fabric in combination with the design reminds me of a piece of fruit.

Blue Ring

I actually picked this stone to coordinate with my favorite t-shirts at the time, which is has now been happily reincarnated into a bag. I didn't do a very good job sizing the ring; it's so big I have to wear it on my thumb, and that was not the intent.

I absolutely love this block. The design and the fabric are a very striking combination.

Shooting Stars

I had quite the celestial obsession in high school. The shooting stars medallion was one of my first metals projects. The planet came later on.

This is one of my favorite blocks! I love the rather random design, which was created to maximize the scraps of star fabric I had left. I wish I had more.
