When I found out my cousin was having a baby girl, I thought, "Perfect! A recipient for the butterfly quilt!," as it was next on my list. However, my sister disagreed. She was not a fan of that color scheme for a baby quilt. I have a small group of people I survey for quilt opinions, but this time I expanded my survey to include a couple coworkers. The next day, one of my coworkers asked if I wanted this stripey variegated rainbow fabric, and it was perfect the perfect pastel color scheme for a baby quilt!
There were so many colors to choose from! I initially bought a bunch of teal fabrics, but when I found out the nursery would have a neutral theme, I eliminated them. To keep it really neutral, I probably should not have included the yellow or dark pink, but they tie into the stripes and I like the pops of color. I was going to quilt in my usual light pink thread, but I decided to go with a cream thread. Piecing the striped binding was a challenge, but it worked out.
This quilt will go to the sister of one of the boys who received the kaleidoscope quilts, and the cousin of the little girl who received the Hidden Foxes quilt. I love that the girls will have matching patterns like the boys. I also love that this quilt features similar fabrics to the kaleidoscope quilts. The light green dot print on the back is the exact same fabric, and the arrows and smaller dots are the same print in different colors.
