Pot Holder Extravaganza

I wanted to use up the scraps from my jelly roll quilt. However, since not all the jelly roll strips were a full 2.5", they were very narrow scraps. Since they were only 2" strips, I wasn't sure what kind of design to create with such narrow pieces. Then I thought about how much I liked the granny square quilt blocks and thought it would work out perfectly. Once I had the 2" squares cut, I had enough for seven pot holders, plus some narrower scraps for the pockets. Fortunately, I had just enough batting for seven pot holders, because I didn't take that into account. Of course, I can rarely complete scrap projects with just scraps, so I had to pull in three other fabrics to complete the tops, backs, and bindings. Hopefully they'll all have new homes soon!

It's Cold Outside!

With extremely low temperatures blanketing the country this weekend, Cleo decided to snuggle under the Avignon Picnic quilt. It was so unusually cold in Pennsylvania that the pipes along the outer walls of Julie's house froze!

Sewing Machine Repairs

Last weekend was not a good sewing weekend. My iron wouldn't stay hot, and the presser foot kept falling off my machine. On Sunday, the presser foot fell off for good when the shank broke. Fortunately, I was able to replace it on Monday for $1.25. The local quilt shop had one in stock so that was a huge relief, as I didn't have to order it, and it was available at all. My machine is getting old, so you never know if parts will be available. I took advantage of the down time on Sunday to take apart the bottom of my machine and clean out the lint. 2013 was a busy quilting year for me, so it needed it!
