Elephant Quilt

I had a 40" x 42" piece of elephant fabric left from the Baby Elephant Quilt I made last year. I could have used it for the back of that quilt, but by that time I knew Julie was planning an elephant themed room for her baby, so I saved it for my new niece.

I used left over fabric from the Airplane Quilt, as well as leftover fabric from the ribbon elephants. The grey chevron and orange swirl fabrics were purchased for these projects, and though I used the grey chevron for a pillow cover for Julie, I didn't end up using them for their intended projects.

I used the zipper foot to bind this quilt and am still thrilled with how well it turns out using this method. I didn't even press the binding this time because I finished this on Friday night and simply forgot.

Hair Bow Elephant

My newest niece has a lot of hair for her age. Julie started using one of the first three elephants for hair bow storage before she hung them over the crib. Once she put them over the crib as intended, she decided she needed another to keep using for hair bows, but we decided on a slightly different design. I used the same size elephant, but we put the elephant at the top. Julie also wanted it to hold head bands, so we added the C at the bottom to hang them.

Grey and White Elephants

Julie wanted some elephants to match her elephant mobile, so I pulled out the elephant pattern I used for the pink and orange elephants. I scaled the larger pattern down a bit, so they are about 8.5" x 6.5". They are not stuffed, but instead have a layer of quilt batting in them.

The white one is my favorite.

They hang on about 2' of ribbon. I added button holes to the end of the ribbon for flexibility of hanging, but also just to practice using the button hole foot on my new machine.

ETA: Glad I added the button hole for hanging, as Julie has repurposed one of the elephants for hair bow storage:

You can also see the pink chevron pillow I made with fabric leftover from the airplane quilt.

Pink and Orange Elephants

The colors for Julie's baby showers are pink and orange and the theme is elephants. Here is the elephant from her invitations:

She pinned this elephant baby shower inspiration board, so I found the stuffed elephant pattern online and made two of the tiny elephants with just a couple alterations.

First, I added 1/4" seam allowance all the way around the shapes. Second, I used the button hole stitch for the eyes since these are the tiny elephants and the oval stitch would have been too big.

This elephant has a different fabric on the back on the ear
because I didn't have enough orange for both sides:

Baby Elephant Quilt

This is the most babyish out of all the baby quilts I have made, especially for a boy. I think the dinosaurs and both sharks will age fairly well, but this one, probably not so much. (It's going to the little brother of the boy who received the first shark quilt.) Nonetheless, it's one of my favorite quilts. I like the cute little elephants, I like the color scheme, I like the quilting.

I actually like the quilting so much that now I really want to make a zig zag quilt.

See, aren't the elephants adorable?

New items purchased to complete this quilt: everything except the batting, and the orange fabric which was leftover from shark quilt #2
