I bought the Hex N More ruler at least three years ago now intending to make the Comet quilt. That still has not happened. This is the Lotus. After a baby quilt detour, this butterfly print was once again my next project. I bought a few more orange and purple prints to make it happen. Originally, the butterflies were going to be the triangles, but I ended up having enough to cut jewels.
This pattern generated a lot of scraps! This is generally something I try to avoid. There are definitely quilts I haven't made because they do not use fabric efficiently. My original plan for the back involved just using up the biggest remnants, but it was very dull. Instead, I pieced a lot of scraps (but my no means all!) and ended up with a very busy back. I was going to quilt a triangle grid, but that would have created far too many intersections that would have stood out too much, so I just went with a zigzag pattern. I incorporated a grey print I did not use in the front. I had enough of the two bottom fabrics left for binding, and the orange was an overall better match.
Finished size: 68" x 79"
