Penguin Quilt

Like the reindeer quilt, this quilt was also on my list of aspirational goals for 2025. It experienced some delays in completing it. I almost finished it in May - it was completely quilted and ready to bind - but then I decided to rip out all the quilting and buy a walking foot. With so much straight-line quilting, it had pulled badly. It took about 12 hours to undo all the quilting, but it was worth it. The walking foot made a big difference, especially when it came to the binding.

There are 12 different penguins - six red, three dark green, and three bright green. The penguins wrapped in strands of lights are my favorite and were included in two of my scrap quilts. The penguins and striped snowflake prints have been in my stash for awhile and have shown up in other projects - ornaments, a bag, and stockings. I had a lot of red fabric from the cherry quilt, but I had to buy one more red print to get to six.

I had to buy 2.5 yards of the sparkly white fabric to finish the sashing and binding. I also bought more fabric to complete the back. The top red fabric is not in the front of the quilt. I really liked it, but the design was too large for the 6" blocks. I quilted in a light grey thread.

Finished size: 68" x 83"
