Woven Hexie Stamp Ornament

I followed a tutorial for weaving this ornament. I was able to do it without the special weaving tool, though I'm sure that would have been easier than using tweezers. I also used masking tape to hold it in place instead of pins. This is a scaled back version of the ornament in the tutorial. When I drew out the grid, I realized it would be a rather large ornament, so I made the strips 1" wide instead. It's still 5" across and 6" tall. I machine stitched the binding to the front and then hand stitched it to the back. The binding was probably trickier than the weaving, even without the special tool. It's a very reversible ornament. I used a button to attach the ribbon instead of a grommet. This postage stamp fabric was last seen in a hexagon shaped ornament in 2018.

Postage Stamp Bird Ornaments

I made these birds for me and Amanda back in March, when I was on a bird ornament kick after finding this tutorial. I used some postage stamp fabric to make them postage themed.

Folded Fabric Hexagon Ornament

I made this ornament in February. The only other time I've made an ornament for the exchange that early in the year was the little red suitcase. I was looking for ideas on how to quilt my Dresden plate quilt when I came across this ornament, so of course I had to take a detour from quilting to make one. I saw the idea at A Spoonful of Sugar, but the instructions are at Sewing and Beyond. Once I figured out the process, I adapted it a bit and ironed everything into shape before stitching it down. I started with a hexagon with the edges measuring 4" and this resulted in an ornament measuring 4" across with 2" edges. The button is 3/4". I had plenty of Christmas fabric, but I decided that this postage stamp print would show the best once folded, and I prefer to have postage-themed ornaments for Amanda over Christmas-themed ornaments. I made a folded postage fabric ornament in 2014, but this one is a little more intricate.

Unicorn Stamp Ornament

I started using a canva.com at work this year, and it includes this stamp image. When I saw it, I immediately decided to make a unicorn stamp for Amanda, which I set in this pendant to turn it into a Christmas ornament. I glued it in using Mod Podge. There's a bit of glitter glue around the edge and on the unicorn's horn. I then applied Mod Podge Dimensional Magic to fill in the pendant. The ribbons are glued to the back of the pendant with a little snowflake decoration.

Hungary Postage Stamp Tree

 

One year in high school I became friends with a foreign exchange student from Hungary. After she went home, we became pen pals. I recently liberated these stamps from their envelopes, and this seemed like a good way to repurpose them. I only had enough for one side of this tree. There isn't a wide range of colors, but at least they all match thematically. While the other two stamp trees are going to Amanda, I am keeping this one for myself.

US Postage Stamp Tree

After making an ornament with fake stamp stickers, I decided to try decoupaging some real stamps. I didn't have a huge selection of old stamps, so this one isn't as nicely color coordinated, as the focus was mostly on trying to cover the entire tree without leaving gaps. I collected stamps for a while as a kid, and that's where these stamps came from.

After the last postage themed ornament, I was inspired to make another. I applied stickers that look like stamps to a wooden tree. The front is nice and colorful.

The back is more muted, but the colors still coordinate and look nice together.

I don't usually date my ornaments, but it worked out nicely to add the year to the back of this one:

Postage Ornament

Since we write a lot of letters, each year I try to make a postage themed ornament for Amanda. This one makes use of a postage stamp fabric. I tried to find a postage stamp charm, but to no avail. I think a heart is perfectly appropriate though. I used this tutorial, which I found unexpectedly in May. The ornament is 3.5" square, and 5" across.
