Bird Pin Cushion

I made a little bird pin cushion for my mom to go with this new bird sewing box I found for her at Joann's. The bird is weighted with a magnet. Now that I'm able to go home more frequently, I've been slowly upgrading my my mom and sister's sewing supplies so I am more likely to have what I need on hand when projects come up while I'm visiting. The box my mom uses for sewing supplies had a lid that doubled as a pin cushion, but the lid was no longer attached.

Jar Pin Cushion

Now that I have a little more space on my new sewing table, I decided to make a jar pin cushion. It really makes sense for the storage aspect, because I keep a ton of pins in my flower pot pin cushion. However, it's never enough when I'm pinning a quilt, and on a daily basis it's rather full.  

Sewing Accessories

Whenever I am quilting, my scissors always end up on the floor, so I've been wanting to make a holder for my scissors for the side of my sewing machine table for a while now. When Amanda sent my birthday present wrapped in a little metal candy tin, I immediately knew it would be my repurposed scissor holder. I used Mod Podge Puzzler Saver, which I conveniently had on hand though I've never used it, to cover it in a scrap of fabric and then glued on the ribbon to finish the edges. It then occurred to me that I could avoid the same problem with my pin cushion by making a flatter one to attach to the side of the sewing machine table. Fortunately I had a conveniently shaped tin on hand for such a project, along with coordinating ribbon and fabric!

Pin Cushion Cat Toys

Tyco and Cleo needed some toys. I came across this tutorial for these mice pin cushions you can wear on your finger and thought they would be perfect.

Pumpkin Pin Cushion

I'm on a bit of a pumpkin kick. I found the tutorial via One Pretty Thing and thought, why not add to my pumpkin collection? I don't really need another pin cushion, but it will go nicely with my yo-yo pumpkin.

Hexagon Turtle

I saw this turtle on One Pretty Thing. There was a tutorial on Craft Passion. It was just so cute, I decided to attempt the hexagons. I had never attempted hexagons and really had no desire to until I saw this little project. They came out fairly well, but I don't think I'll be attempting another hexagon project. The shell is about 3"x4". Head to tail and flipper to flipper are both about 6".

Cathedral Window Cube Tutorial

Here's what we'll be making today:


Materials:

• 6 squares of fabric for the Cathedral Window blocks, which will form the sides of the cube (I started out with 7.5" squares; folded to about 3.25")
• 12 squares of fabric to set in the "windows" (Mine ended up being 2" squares)
• Stuffing (I used scraps of quilt batting)
• Needle and thread
• Straight pins
• Scissors
• Rotary cutting supplies, or a pen and a ruler

Cathedral Window Cube

This project served two purposes. One, I'd seen similar cubes in a Cathedral Window Flickr group and I really wanted to figure out how to make one. Two, I'd also really wanted to do a red and white Cathedral Window project, and I wanted to create something useful. The cube is about 3.5" high, and will serve as a slightly large pin cushion.

Pin Cushion

Yet another project using the leftover baby quilt fabric. Since it's floral, I thought it worked well for flower petals. This flower is hot-glued into a tiny 1.5" ceramic pot. Unfortunately, attempts to take photographs of a side view did not turn out so well. I made this mostly because it was cute, but after completing it, I do not how I went so long without a pin cushion. It makes life a lot easier.
