Forest Gnomes Quilt

My third and final Christmas quilt for the year! The only one of the three I thought I'd actually complete this year and it's the last! The gnome print is the Christmas fabric I acquired most recently. Most of the fabric was already in my stash. I was very pleased at how perfectly the tree print worked for the back. I did have to buy the polka dot print to finish the back. The red and green dots could not be more perfect. I used a tiny grey polka dot print for the binding. I really like the compass stars. I needed five more blocks to add one more row, and I didn't want to make more trees since they are most efficient in sets of three. I quilted in the same light grey thread I used for the penguins. I used my Hera marker to mark the diagonal lines. 

Mailbox Gnomes

 

I found this glass terrarium on clearance last year but didn't find the right inspiration for it. I'd picked up quite an assortment of odds and ends, including these gnomes, but nothing was coming together. Once a mail scene occurred to me, I knew that was the right theme. I was hoping to find a doll house mailbox, but the one at Hobby Lobby was too large, as the terrarium is only about 3.5" tall. I made the mail box out of cardboard. I was going to make tiny mail, but I found the mail in the doll house accessories while looking for a mail box.

Glitter Foam Gnome

This year I focused on sheets of glittery foam as my medium of choice for the ornament exchange. I bought some last year but the ornament I tried to make did not end up working out. This gnome pattern was intended for felt, but it was easily adaptable to foam. Using a rhinestone-like gem for the nose made it lay flatter and goes nicely with the glitter. I have no idea how I would have cut a wooden bead in half.

Santa Gnome

This is my original ornament for the year. I tried to make a gnome ornament for last year's Ornament Exchange using little wooden doll shapes, but it did not work out. I decided to do a felt gnome this year. I was trying to decide on a color scheme when it occurred to me to turn it into a Santa gnome! Unfortunately, it came out a bit crooked, but we'll just say he has a jaunty hat. Santa gnome is about 3" tall.
