Disney Princess Bags

I bought this remnant of Disney princess fabric awhile ago and never used it for anything. Since we were taking another family trip to Florida again this year, I decided to make little treat bags as souvenirs for the girls. Each is personalized with a letter charm as a zipper pull.

Minnie Mouse Bag

When I made Claire's princess bag, I also made a mini princess bag. The fabric I used for Lucy's Moana bag didn't really lend itself to a small version, so I made her a mini Minnie bag. She has recently developed a love for "Mimmie," as she calls her.

Finished size: 9" W at top, 5.5" W at bottom, 5.5" H, 3.5" D

Moana Bag

Lucy loves Moana. It was time to make her a bag to match Claire's princess bag, so Moana was the obvious choice. I tried to make it as similar to Claire's as possible, but it came out a little larger due to the design of the fabric.

Green Boxy Bag

I made yet another bag! This one will go to the same little girl who is getting the orange purse. My mom got me this green fabric quite a while ago and I've never found enough matching fabrics to turn it into a quilt. The lining fabric matches the handle. The set of vehicle buttons I got for the car boxy bag included planes and trains as well, and I thought this little grey train button matched nicely for the zipper pull.

Princess Bags

Claire loves princesses. My mom told me they were looking at princess fabric at Joann's and she told Claire that I could make her something with princess fabric. Then I get a text from my sister, "I hear you have princess fabric? Claire needs a bag for all her princesses." I clarified that I did not have princess fabric, but yes, I could make a bag. Julie sent this super cute princess print. We had settled on a wristlet design, but the size of princesses necessitated making the bag a little bigger in order to accommodate all the fabric princesses (hopefully it's big enough for all the princess figurines). When I called Julie to discuss dimensions, she asked Claire, "Do you want one row of princesses or two rows of princesses?" Of course she picked two. Since it was going to be so much bigger than a wristlet, I added d-rings and an optional shoulder strap.

The lining is a pale yellow with a strip of the same star print that's on the outside

Car Boxy Bag

After I made a bag like this for Claire last year, I commented to my sister that I should make one for Claire's friend Jack too. She said he would love it for his cars, and I knew the fabric from the car quilt would be perfect. However, I didn't have a wide enough piece left, and it took me awhile to brainstorm the idea of making a road to make it wide enough, despite that being the pattern of the quilt this fabric is from! I used an orange polka dot fabric for the lining and found a cute car button to use as the zipper pull. Orange would have been perfect for a bit more contrast, but the blue works too. I used my machine's letter stitch to stitch BEEP BEEP on the handle, since it also says BEEP on the fabric.

Elmo Boxy Bag

After making bags for the twins, I knew I needed to make one for Claire, even though she won't be starting kindergarten for a few more years. Fortunately, I had just enough Elmo fabric left over from her Halloween bag last fall to make this pouch.

I used interfacing on the lining this time and it helped it fit better. The tutorial said to fuse the interfacing to the quilted panels, but I fused it to the interfacing, as that's what I wanted to hold its shape. After I boxed the corners, I also sewed the lining to the exterior before turning it, which also helped keep it in place. Despite starting with the same sized panels as last time, the finished dimensions are slightly different.

Twin Boxy Bags

When I discovered a tutorial for boxy pouches on Pink Stitches via Crazy Mom Quilts, it suddenly occurred to me how much I have always wanted to make a boxy pouch like this. So naturally I made two! My twin nieces start kindergarten at the end of August, and I had already been planning some sort of beginning of the school year package, and these totes are just perfect for school supplies!

This pink fabric has appeared in two other projects: a Cathedral Window ornament, and my fabulous hexie turtle. It was just perfect because it's matching fabric, but, with the way it is cut, the bags are noticeably different. I used the alphabet stitch on my machine to stitch the girls' names on the handle of the bags, but the pink thread isn't dark enough to make it stand out very much. I was glad the names ended up oriented properly on the outside of the bags! I added some ribbon and beads for a cute little zipper pull.

I started with 8" x 13" panels to make the smaller bag. The end of the pouches turned out more rectangular than square, but that is not a problem. I quilted the exterior panels, but I opted not to use interfacing, as I don't usually and didn't have any. The lining ended up not being as snug as I would have liked, so I picked up some interfacing for the next one to see if that helps the problem.

Zippered Penguin Pouch

I made this zippered pouch for the penguin ornaments I made last Christmas. I'm surprised it didn't occur to me to make a storage bag for them to being with, but recently I've been brainstorming reasons to make bags in order to use recycled zippers. I think this bag will be large enough to store the mini tree skirt and little stuffed penguin tree topper as well.

I'm particularly please with how the zipper tabs turned out

Camera Case

I decided I wanted a less bulky camera case for my travels this summer. Since it's for traveling, I thought this airplane fabric was appropriate, and colorful! This is the first padded pouch I've made. Each side has two layers of cotton batting, so it was a bit difficult to turn, but it should cushion the camera nicely.

Travel Pouch

After visiting my sister for Thanksgiving, my mom requested a bag she could use to keep track of her phone charger and camera cord while traveling. She wanted something bright she could spot easily in her larger bag. This is what I made her:

I love the colors. She chose the floral fabric from my stash, and I also had the orange for the liner. I was going to get an orange zipper, but they didn't have one in the right length, and I'm really glad I ended up with the blue instead.

I happened to have the ribbons, felt, button, and beads already. I couldn't believe how many coordinating accents I had on hand.

It's about 8" x 10" x 2" on the bottom.

Zipper Pocket

Zippers are my new thing. This is my third project with a zipper in a month. This is a zipper pocket in what will be the lining of a bag. I am terribly pleased with myself for figuring out how to install the zipper so nicely. The pattern I used for the bag included instructions for the pocket, but you would've been able to see the ends of the zipper inside the pocket, and that doesn't look very good.

Lack of orange zippers is the bane of my existence. All I can find in the stores is "Tango," which isn't really a true orange. Zack found me one online, but the shipping was astronomical. So I had to use blue for this project, but I'm going to make up for it by adding decorative orange stitching to the lining.

Beef Bike Bag

On Memorial Day we got bikes, and after one ride we quickly learned we needed bike accessories: better seats, a water bottle holder, a lock, and somewhere to put our keys. So far we've got better seats, a lock, and now a bag.

Last summer I got this bag at the State Fair:

I love it, but it's flat so I don't ever use it. I was determined not to spend much making a handle bar bag so it was the perfect solution.

All I purchased was the zipper. I already had the clasps from some other bag I'd previously dismantled.

Coin Purse

I whipped up this little coin purse from scraps right before we left for vacation. Perhaps it's the reason I ended up forgetting my actual wallet! I was pleased with the results since I don't work with zippers much and my attempt to put one on a fleece did not work out.

ETA: I managed to get the zipper on the fleece!
